Each year we see social platforms evolve, audiences shift, algorithm changes and new trends sprouting up. With these changes as small business owners, we have to stay ahead of the curve. As we navigate through 2024, here are some tips to help guide you in ensuring your strategy is effective.

The social media landscape is constantly changing. What worked last year might not work today. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are continually updating their algorithms, while new contenders are always emerging. Staying updated with these changes will help you tailor your strategy to the latest trends and user behaviors.

Being authentic will reign supreme. Audiences will value genuine connections over spammy promotional content. Focusing on authentic interactions and transparent communication with your target audience (customer/client) will help with building the relationships and foster trust in your brand and product.

Data is your friend when it comes to social media growth. When I first started travel blogging in 2013, each month I would review my analytics and input them on a spreadsheet so that I was able to keep track of which platforms I was growing on. Now, social media platforms make it easier to keep track of that growth by providing an analytic dashboard.

On Facebook, it’s called Insights, here’s a look at the data (Insight) for a Facebook Page I manage.

By analyzing metrics such as engagement rates, audience demographics, and content performance, you can make informed decisions that drive better results. You will be able to see what’s working and where you need to adjust your strategy.

Key Action: Regularly review your social media analytics to identify trends, measure success, and refine your strategy.

4. Invest in Quality Content

You will hear that you should post, post, post all throughout the day. However, I believe quality over quantity is the way to social media success. High-quality content—whether it’s engaging videos, well-crafted images for your latest products, or insightful blog posts—can set you apart from the competition.

Invest time and resources into creating content that provides real value to your audience. This could be investing in a tripod to help with recording videos. A resource can be having a person is who skilled in taking photos and you do a try-on of the latest items you have in your boutique. 

Take time to plan out the content you want to share. Spend a day creating the content. Schedule the content to post, so you don’t have to do it daily. Lastly, engage with your audience as they interact with your post. 

Key Action: Develop a content calendar that includes a mix of educational, entertaining, and promotional content to keep your audience engaged.

Influencer marketing continues to be a powerful tool for social media growth. Partnering with influencers who align with your brand values can help you reach new audiences and enhance credibility. This doesn’t require trying to get the top influencer in beauty. There are local influencers who have a large following that can share about your projects. 

However, authenticity in these partnerships is key; choose influencers who genuinely resonate with your brand. If they are a customer that’s even better. 

Key Action: Identify and engage with influencers who have a genuine connection with your target audience and work collaboratively to create authentic content.

Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) are reshaping the social media landscape. AI-driven chatbots, AR filters, and VR experiences chatbots are becoming increasingly popular ways to engage with audiences in innovative ways.

Key Action: Experiment with new technologies to enhance user experience and stay ahead of the competition. Consider how these tools can be integrated into your social media strategy.

7. Foster Community Engagement

You see the growth, but it is key to continue building and nurturing a community around your brand. Engaging with your audience through comments, messages, and interactive content helps create a sense of belonging and loyalty. Host live sessions, Q&A events, and community challenges to strengthen your relationship with followers. 

Key Action: Allocate time each day to interact with your audience, respond to comments, and participate in discussions to build a strong, engaged community.
